Sell your first compliance audit this week.

This is the process we would use if we were a two-person consultancy. It assumes you already have clients or prospects — it does not need new software, new staff, or a legal opinion.

01
Pick ten stores you already know. Not the biggest logos — the ones where someone answers your email. Category matters less than access: you need one person who can say yes to a €300 line item.
02
Run the checker before you write. Fifteen minutes on your branded instance gives you a score, the failed checks and the policy gaps. That becomes the opening line of your email: “Your product pages have no Offer schema, and your returns policy is not linked from the footer.”
03
Offer a paid audit, not free advice. Free advice gets you a thank-you. A €299 audit gets you a purchase order. Say what they get: a scored gap list, the evidence for each failure, a 30-day fix order, and the official source for every requirement.
04
Deliver in one sitting. Run the checker, export or print the result, add three paragraphs of category-specific notes, and send it as a PDF. Two hours of work, one deliverable, no meetings.
05
Quote the fix separately. The audit finds the work; the implementation is the bigger invoice. Schema on the product template, policy pages, footer links, a product feed — most of it is a day of theme work you can subcontract or do yourself.
06
Turn it into a retainer. Re-run the scan monthly and report the score movement. That is a maintenance line, not a project line, and it renews without a new sales conversation.

These are market observations, not a promise. Your pricing depends on your market, your brand and what your clients already pay you.

The email that works

Subject: three gaps on [store]’s product pages

Hi [name],

I ran [store] through our compliance and readiness checker before writing. It scores [n]/100. The three that matter: no Offer schema, no stock state in the data, and the returns policy is not linked from the footer.

I do a fixed-price first-pass audit — [price] — that turns this into a prioritised fix list with the official source for each requirement. If it is useful, I can send a sample of the format first.

[Your name], [your firm]

What not to promise

Do not say “compliant”, “certified”, “marketplace-approved”, or “legal”. The checker maps requirements and visible gaps; it does not test products, sign declarations, or act as an authorised representative. Put that limit in your own proposal too — it protects the invoice.
